Health and Social Care

Students will explore areas that influence how we develop throughout life stages and raise expectations of how we can lives successful and healthy lives.

Through the study of Health and Social Care, we aim to develop student’s employability skills and teach them how they can perform a positive role in the local community as well as learning about the core concepts of the subject.

Our students are encouraged to develop a detailed knowledge of the subject and should be able to link different topics together as they progress through the course.

Students will develop their analysis skills, and learn to apply all their knowledge to the real world with the support of case studies.

Enrichment

Students will learn about the role of health and social care in their local area and the way organisations can impact on people’s lives.

They will take an active role in their community as they set up for a Christmas party at our local care home.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through a mixture of both coursework and an exam. Their coursework will make up 60% of the grade, the other 40% will come from an exam.

Careers

Geography at Beckfoot will develop a range of employable skills: analysis and evaluation, researching and supporting arguments. Students will also have opportunities to present their ideas and argue their opinions.

R033: Life stages and development and life events and their impacts on individuals.

R032: Person centred values and how they’re applied by service providers, benefits of applying the person-centred values and effects on service users’ health and wellbeing if person-centred values aren’t applied.

R033: Sources of support to meet individual needs and work on coursework.

R032: The importance of both verbal  and non-verbal communication skills in health care settings, the importance of active listening and the importance of special methods.

R033: Submit NEA.

Year 11

R032: Infection prevention, safeguarding, safety procedures and measures and how security measures protect service users and staff.

R034: Choose optional unit and begin working on set assignment task.
