Safeguarding

Beckfoot School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children regardless of age, gender, religion or beliefs, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or socio-economic background. Our school provides a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment. We nurture remarkable learning spaces, where everyone works together enthusiastically to create a positive, creative and caring culture.

We recognise that all adults in school have a full and active part to play in protecting our children from harm, and that the child or young person’s welfare is our paramount concern . We ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities in respect of safeguarding and is provided with appropriate training to recognise, identify and respond to safeguarding concerns relating to young people. All necessary steps are taken to ensure that adults in school are working in a safe way.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child or young person’s welfare. We will ensure that concerns about our children are discussed with their parents/carers, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. Confidential, detailed and accurate records of all safeguarding concerns are maintained and securely stored.

Our safeguarding curriculum helps children stay safe, recognise when they don’t feel safe and identify who they might/can talk to. Suitable support and guidance is provided so that learners know they have a range of appropriate adults to approach if they need assistance.

Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy ensures these values are recognised and adhered to.

Support for Families

This website is fantastic for any family living in Bradford. Here you can find information and advice on a wide range of topics, find out what’s on in the Bradford District.

There is support for money, safety, education, special educational needs and more.

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass, which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse.

As a school, we have ensured that a member of our staff, (Designated Safeguarding Lead) known as a Key Adult, has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedure, allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the children in our care.

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021, identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right. If school receives a notification from Operation Encompass, a safeguarding lead may contact you to check in and offer any further support.

The Prevent Duty

Schools are duty bound to safeguard students from radicalisation and being drawn into extremism. If school suspects this is happening, they will make a referral to the local Prevent Team to gain support for the student.

What to do if you think a child is being radicalised

If you think a child or the people around them are involved in radicalisation and there is an immediate risk of harm, call 999 straight away. If the risk isn’t immediate, please speak to your schools safeguarding lead.
